I love bridal bow hats! June 19, 2008

Filed under: me so crafty — diaryofasuburbantwentysomething @ 12:47 am

I had the great honor of making the traditional “bridal bow hat” for my sister-in-law the other week at her shower.  Joce was lucky enough to have had two wedding showers. At the first shower I was also in charge of the bow hat but to my dismay NO ONE put bows on their gifts. WTF! I wouldn’t even dare post photos of that mess. Lucky for me, the gifts at shower #2 were adorned with lots of pretty bows. Here are some photo highlights of the special occassion.

Yesterday I attended my best friend’s wedding shower. The shower was held at the Grape Escape  a winery in galmorous Dayton, NJ.

I am seriously the most neurotic driver ever. ”Guy” lent me his car (brave man) and Linds and I began our adventure around 9:15am.  By 9:30 my palms were a sweaty mess. Here’s what I dislike about driving:
- merging on the highway
- reading directions from mapquest
- changing lanes on a major highways
- getting on the GW bridge
- going over the GW bridge
- getting off the GW bridge

After several freak-outs…we finally arrived :)

The party was great. I got to see some old college friends which is always a nice treat. The bride looked fabulous and I was so glad to be there to share this special day with her. It’s not too often in your life where you get to have all your friends and family in one place AND you get to open tons of presents!

I had the honor of creating the traditional “ribbon hat.”  I have to admit, I am one damn good ribbon hat maker. Anyone need a ribbon hat, give me a shout.

After taking a few days off from knitting, I’m back on the old horse. My class tonight gave me the strength to move on :)

My new project is the baby surprise sweater.

A few weeks ago, I signed up for ravelry.com. I heard a lot about the site at work and figured I’d give it a whirl.  The site requires you to sign up to receive an invitation (which they approve) before you can become a member, create a profile etc. When I signed up two weeks ago, there were 5,000 people ahead of me waiting to get in!! Of course that made me even more eager to check this site out. To my surprise, I had an invitation waiting in my email box yesterday letting me know that I was “officially” invited to the ravelry.com sewing party. I have to admit that the site was worth waiting for. There’s tons of good inspiration and links to great patterns. I’m even more inspired to knit. Now I just need to learn how to read a freakin’ pattern (why are they so confusing)!

I’ve been inspired over the past to year to expand my crafty skills. This spring, I signed up for a knitting class through the continuing education program in our town. The class is eight weeks long and after only two classes I have completed my first project! The baby booites you see below were pretty easy to make and now I have the confidence to try another project (perhaps something a bit larger!)

What should I try next? Any ideas???

For years, I’ve lived in 500 – 800 square feet of space. When Guy and I lived in our aptartment it was a struggle to walk around our over-furnished living room. We barely recognized our kitchen table when we finally set it up in the new house. One of the benefits of moving to the burbs has been our very spacious 4 bedroom house. Since the day we’ve moved in, I’ve been planning on setting up my craft room. A place to sew, bead, knit and be crafty.  In honor of National Craft Month, I’m dedicating this month to setting up my space.
